Reconnect a channel that says Needs attention
What Needs attention means on a channel, how to reconnect it, and what happens to posts meanwhile.
A channel stops taking posts when the platform no longer accepts the sign-in OmniPosts saved. This guide shows how to spot it and fix it.
What it means
A channel that shows Needs attention on the Channels screen needs you to reconnect it. A sentence under the status says why. Typical causes are a sign-in that expired, or access you removed on the platform's side.
Some platforms give OmniPosts no way to renew a sign-in. For those, the channel moves to Needs attention about a day before the sign-in runs out. That gives you time to reconnect before a post fails.
If the status is Blocked by the platform, the platform itself has blocked posting from the account. Reconnecting does not lift that. Check the platform, and if it stays blocked, write to join@omniposts.dev.
How to reconnect
- Open Channels.
- On the card with Needs attention, press Reconnect followed by the platform name.
- Follow the steps for that platform. They are the same as when you first connected: sign in and approve OmniPosts, or paste a new app password, token or key. Each platform's page under Channels says what it asks for.
Reconnecting an account that is still connected does not use up another place on your plan.
You can also start from the composer. A channel that needs a reconnect is listed under Where to post with its reason and a Reconnect link. A failed result in the Inbox shows the same button.
What happens to posts meanwhile
- New posts. The composer will not let you tick the channel while it needs a reconnect. Through the
API, a post that names the channel gets a rejection for that channel, with the failure code
needs_reconnect, while the other channels still go out. - Posts already scheduled. OmniPosts checks the channel again when the post is due. If the channel still needs a reconnect, the result for that channel fails with the message that the platform needs you to reconnect, and the other channels are not held back. The failed result offers Reconnect, not Try again.
So reconnect before a scheduled post is due. If you reconnect too late, write the post again for that channel.
What disconnecting does
Disconnect on a channel card asks you to confirm. OmniPosts then deletes the channel's sign-in details and the raw copies of what it downloaded from the platform. Your list of posts, your publishing record and the numbers already on Performance stay, and they stop updating.
Disconnecting from OmniPosts does not remove OmniPosts's access on the platform's side. To do that as well, remove OmniPosts from the platform's own settings. OmniPosts deletes app passwords at once on disconnect because it cannot revoke them for you.
