Publish one post to several channels at once

Write one post in the composer, adjust it per channel, attach media, choose when it goes out, and read the result in the Inbox.

Updated

This guide takes you through the composer from a blank post to the result for each channel. You need at least one connected channel. If you have none, start with the Quickstart.

Step 1: Write the post

Open New post. Type your text under Write once. The draft saves as you type, and the top of the page shows Saved with the time. If your session ends, the text is kept in the browser tab until you sign in again.

Step 2: Pick the channels

Under Where to post, tick Post to each channel you want. Only channels that can take a post right now have a tick box. The others are listed below:

  • A channel that needs attention is shown with its reason and a Reconnect link. See Reconnect a channel.
  • A connected channel whose platform is switched off shows posting paused for now.
  • A line at the bottom says how many more channels are coming soon. See which opens the Channels screen.

Step 3: Check the preview and adjust a channel

Under Preview there is one tab for each channel you ticked. A tab shows:

  • how the text will read on that channel;
  • a counter such as 120 / 300, counted the way that platform counts. It turns into a warning when the text is too long;
  • how many images and videos that channel allows.

To change the post for one channel, open Adjust for that channel and tick Use different text on that channel. Edit the text there. The other channels keep the original.

The same drawer holds the channel's own options, where a platform has any. A required option is marked, and some options are fixed for now and say so.

Step 4: Add media

Under Add a photo or video, pick a file or drop one in. It uploads at once. Each file then shows a field named Describe it for people who can't see it. Fill it in. This is the alt text, and the description saves when you leave the field.

If a file does not fit a channel you ticked, a message under the file names the channel and the problem. Remove takes a file off the post.

Step 5: Choose when

Under When, pick one:

  • Post now
  • Add to queue, which shows the next free time. See Use the queue.
  • Schedule for later, which asks for a date and time in your time zone.

Step 6: Fix what blocks sending

The send button is Publish now, Add to queue or Schedule, depending on your choice. Until the post can go, a line under the button says what is missing. Press the button anyway and OmniPosts lists every problem in a box headed Not sent yet, and moves you to it. Typical problems are:

  • no channel ticked;
  • a channel with too many characters, or a channel that needs text or an image and has none;
  • a required channel option that is empty;
  • a time that is not in the future;
  • an empty queue.

Nothing is sent until the list is empty.

Step 7: Send and read the result

Press the button. The page then shows one line per channel, for example Posted to 4 of 5, with a status chip for each channel. Follow this post opens the detail page.

If a channel rejects the post at the start, the others still go out. The channel that rejected it is listed with the reason and one button.

Open the Inbox at any time. It lists every post, newest first, with a result for each channel:

  • Posted, with a link to the post on the platform;
  • Not posted, with a one-sentence reason and one button;
  • a status such as Checking whether this posted, while OmniPosts confirms the outcome.

What each button does is in Failure classes. What each status means is in Posts and results.
