Honest numbers: engagement where it is shared

Engagement numbers appear only where a platform shares them. Everything else says Not available and why, never a made-up zero.

Updated

OmniPosts shows an engagement number only when a platform shares it with apps. When it does not, you see Not available and the reason. OmniPosts never fills the gap with 0, because 0 would say that nobody liked the post, and that is a claim OmniPosts cannot make.

Two kinds of record

The Performance screen draws on two different things.

  • Your publishing record. What you posted, where, when, and what happened: posted, failed, and why. This is OmniPosts's own record. It exists for every channel, and it does not depend on what a platform shares.
  • What the platform shows. Likes, reposts, replies, views and similar counts. These come from the platform, and only where it shares them.

A platform's own numbers can differ from OmniPosts's. A platform may count across its whole network while OmniPosts can read only your home server, or the other way round. Where the source matters, OmniPosts says who counted the number.

Why a number is Not available

Every missing number carries a reason. The API returns it as reason (a sentence) and reasonKind (one of a fixed set).

reasonKind What it means
platform_hides The platform does not share this number with apps.
not_collected OmniPosts does not collect this number yet. This one is on OmniPosts, and the screen says so.
unverified Not yet confirmed to be reliable, so OmniPosts is not showing it.
collection_stopped OmniPosts stopped collecting this number for this post.
window_closed The platform shares it only for a limited time, and that time has passed. The last value OmniPosts saw is kept.
private_post The platform does not report numbers for private posts.
reconnect Reconnect the account and allow statistics, then OmniPosts can read it.
paid_plan The platform shares it only on its paid plan, which OmniPosts does not use.
business_only The platform shares it only for business accounts connected through its business programme.

The screen words each one as what it is. A gap that belongs to the platform says Not shared by the platform. A gap that is OmniPosts's says We don't collect these yet or We're still checking these numbers. OmniPosts does not blame a platform for something OmniPosts has not built.

A gap can also be a number OmniPosts should have recorded and did not. The screen marks those Not recorded, and says that is on OmniPosts's side.

What OmniPosts keeps

OmniPosts keeps your own publishing record for as long as your account exists. It is deleted when you delete your account.

Platform data is held under tighter limits:

  • Raw data downloaded from a platform is deleted automatically after at most 30 days. It is deleted at once when you disconnect the channel.
  • The engagement figures OmniPosts derives from it are kept for the life of your account, unless a platform sets a shorter limit.
  • Some platforms cap how long reporting data may be kept. LinkedIn Page reporting data, when that channel is available, is kept for at most 1 year.

The full list of what OmniPosts keeps and for how long is in the privacy notice.

In the API

The metric endpoints return a value, an availability and, when a number is missing, its reason and reasonKind. A missing number has a value of null, not 0. Ratios with nothing to measure, such as a success rate before anything was sent, are also null.
