LinkedIn: your own profile, coming soon to OmniPosts
Coming soon. How posting text and images to your own LinkedIn profile from OmniPosts will work. LinkedIn Pages is a separate channel, also coming soon.
This channel posts to your own LinkedIn profile. Company Pages are a separate channel, LinkedIn Pages, also coming soon. See Channels.
What you need
- A LinkedIn account.
Connect it
On Channels, choose LinkedIn. OmniPosts sends you to LinkedIn to sign in and approve it, then you return to OmniPosts. There is no form to fill in.
OmniPosts asks LinkedIn only for your name, picture and email through sign-in, plus permission to post for you. If LinkedIn grants anything beyond that, or leaves out the permission to post, the connection fails.
What you can post
- Text. Up to 3000 characters. OmniPosts counts after it escapes characters LinkedIn treats as special, so text full of symbols can come out longer than it looks.
- Images. Up to 20 per post, JPEG, PNG or GIF, up to 5 MB each. Alt text is supported, up to 4086 characters. One image is posted as a single image, several as a multi-image post.
- Video. Not supported in OmniPosts yet.
- Hashtags.
#wordbecomes a real hashtag. Mentions are not supported; an@stays plain text.
The composer shows one LinkedIn setting:
| Setting | Options |
|---|---|
| Who can see it | Public (default), or connections only |
Numbers you get
None. LinkedIn does not let apps read engagement on personal posts, and does not report impressions. Cells show "Not available" with the reason. LinkedIn also limits how long apps may keep personal-post data, which is why OmniPosts keeps none. See Honest numbers.
Good to know
- Sign-in lasts 60 days. LinkedIn gives apps like OmniPosts no way to renew it quietly. OmniPosts marks the channel as needing a reconnect a day before it runs out, and you sign in again. Each sign-in starts a fresh 60 days.
- Scheduling more than 60 days ahead. A post scheduled after your sign-in runs out is refused when you schedule it, with the date it ends, instead of failing on the day. Reconnect, then schedule it, or pick an earlier time.
- Disconnecting. Removing the channel deletes OmniPosts's copy of the sign-in straight away. LinkedIn offers apps no way to withdraw the permission, so OmniPosts still appears under LinkedIn Settings → Data privacy → Permitted services until you remove it there or the 60 days run out.
- No automatic double-check. OmniPosts cannot list your LinkedIn posts, so a post whose outcome is unclear is marked for you to verify on LinkedIn instead of being sent again.
- Rate budget. About 150 posts per member per day. LinkedIn does not publish this figure.
- If LinkedIn rejects the permission. The result tells you to reconnect and allow posting.
