Post to a Telegram channel or group by bot
Post to a Telegram channel or group through a bot you create and make an admin.
OmniPosts posts to Telegram through a bot that you create and add to your channel as an admin. There is no platform review.
What you need
- A Telegram channel or group you manage.
- A bot. Create one by talking to @BotFather in Telegram. It gives you a bot token.
- The bot added to your channel as an admin with permission to post.
Do the last step before you connect. OmniPosts refuses the connection if the bot cannot post there.
Connect it
On Channels, choose Telegram. The form asks for:
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Bot token | The token from @BotFather. It is hidden as you type. |
| Channel | The channel's @username, or its numeric id for a private channel. |
For the channel you can also paste t.me/yourchannel; OmniPosts turns it into @yourchannel.
Before it saves anything, OmniPosts checks three things: the token works, the chat exists and is not a private one-to-one chat, and the bot is the owner or an admin who can post.
What you can post
- Text. Up to 4096 characters, sent exactly as you wrote it. OmniPosts does not apply Telegram formatting, so nothing you type is read as markup.
- Images. Up to 10 per post, JPEG, PNG or WebP, up to 10 MB each. One image is sent as a photo; two to ten are sent as one album. Alt text is not supported, because Telegram has no field for it.
- Captions. When images are attached, your text becomes the caption, which Telegram limits to 1024 characters. OmniPosts checks this before sending. In an album the caption goes on the first image.
- Video. Not supported in OmniPosts yet.
The composer shows two Telegram settings:
| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Show link preview | Shows a preview card for the first link in a text-only post. | On |
| Send silently | Subscribers get the post without a notification sound. | Off |
Numbers you get
None. Telegram does not tell bots how many people viewed a message, and OmniPosts does not collect reactions or replies. Every cell shows "Not available" with the reason. See Honest numbers.
Good to know
- No automatic double-check. A bot cannot read a channel's history, so if Telegram does not give a clear answer, OmniPosts cannot look the post up. Such a post is marked for you to verify by hand instead of being sent again.
- When it needs a reconnect. If you revoke the token, remove the bot, take away its right to post, or the channel moves or is deleted, the channel asks to be reconnected.
- Pace. Telegram allows about one message per second in a chat and 20 per minute in a group. An album counts as several messages.
- Links to the post. OmniPosts links to the message only for public channels, since a private one has no public address.
